Boxee, Hulu for Non-US TV Addicts

For a couple of days I am now an alpha tester of Boxee on my MacBook. And I have to say, I really like it so far. Dead simple interface, my downloaded TV-Shows are sorted well and the built-in “Friends Activity” could be very, very handy :-). It is like Cédric said “toyed with Boxee – finally “the TV” the way I want to have it #future“. Boxee even comes with an integrated hulu.com and cbs.com viewer. But if you are a tv viewer as I am, you know that you cannot use those services from outside the US and Canada. And this is where Hotspot Shield comes in. It is a free VPN client that connects you to a server in the United States. Now hulu and cbs work perfectly inside Boxee. And you do not see any of the ads you would have if browsing with Hotspot Shield to hulu.com.

As a little bonus, I have some invites to the Mac OS X and Linux Ubuntu alpha. Drop me a note if you want an invite.

quick intro to boxee from boxee on Vimeo.

I have just one feature request: Can somebody create a plugin for sf.tv?
