@Facebook Do the username Thing Right, dammit!

Saturday morning. All the world is awake. All the world? Yes!
And only because Facebook launched “username” – or as techies call it “Vanity-URLs”.
Basically it allows you to have “an online identity” under the Facebook.com domain. If you really want “Your Online Identity”, get yourself a domain name. Something way more useful than a pointer on facebook.com.
But hey, I got my username this morning. And it is “corsincamichel“. Or “corsin.camichel“. Both make sense to me. There is just one little problem. I have also
corsin.camiche.l
co.rs.in.ca.mi.ch.el
cor.sin.cam.ich.el
and
c.o.r.s.i.n.c.a.m.i.c.h.e.l
and of course any other combination with dots in it. Even c..orsin..camichel
You might think this makes sense. Sure, corsincamichel and corsin.camichel makes sense. But the huge problem that Facebook created here is, that all those usernames response with a “200 OK”. This means under all my usernames ALL of Facebook is available. So these are all duplicated pages and content. Something search engines do not like at all!

On the positive side, Google already has indexed hundreds of usernames.

Update: My favorite “username” is this
CorsinCamichel-.-.—.-……-.-.-..—..-.-…….-..
Is that not cool? 🙂 [source]
