Ever wonder where TV Shows get pirated?

Eureka is an American science fiction television series set in a town inhabited almost entirely by geniuses. The show is aired in the United States and Canada. It is currently on its third season and takes a short break.

The plot explains pretty clearly that this is a show for geeks and nerds. In the last episode (03×08 – “From Fear to Eternity”) <spoiler> Sheriff Carter was fired from his job as the town cop </spoiler>. And if you follow his house SARAH on Twitter, you have the chance to participate in a poll that ask, if “General Mansfield should reinstate Sheriff Carter?”. The results are pretty clear. The funnier part is that you see where Eureka is watched even if it is not airing there yet, like in Germany or Switzerland:

Europe

World

Sure, only 403 people have voted so far. But around 40% is not from North America. I think this clearly shows that viewers want to see shows the same time as they are aired in the US and Canada.
How do you see this? Are you watching TV Shows that aren’t airing in your country now?

  1. Yes of course I am. I don’t see why I should have to wait a year or so to watch a crappy german translation! No thanks 🙂

  3. Yes, waiting is (too) awfull.. You have to wait until the US version gets translated and screened in german tv. But because I prefer the original english version I’ve to wait even longer for the DVD release.

But I think this kind of ‘piratery’ isn’t a big problem, because the ‘mainstream’ anyway don’t understand english. So they dont mind waiting.

  4. Of course I do.

However the trend seems, that shows get here faster and faster. At the moment it is mainly in the UK (Prison Break just airs one day after the US). If I have to wait I download.

Heroes however I watch on BBC HD – I don’t mind waiting one week.

  5. Thanks for your comments guys.
What bothers me the most is the one week break between episodes and that I cannot choose the date and time I want to see it. With downloading I can watch several episodes at the time I want.
