My first sight of a Sony PlayStation3 in the wild. At the local Media Markt (and I think across Switzerland) Sony is presenting its next generation console (the only one not on sale before Christmas in Europe…. tstststs).
I talked to a representative and he said something about the prices:
The big one (with 60 gigabyte hard drive) will cost 799.- CHF, the smaller one 150.- less.
I could pre-order one now, I just have to pre-pay a 100 bucks. No thanks, was my answer. Who buys a console for 800 Francs if next to it the Xbox360 is on sale for 528.–? Okay, I than asked him about the numbers of PS3s they plan to bring on the Swiss market in March. 80! That’s right, for the whole country, we get 80 consoles. And of that number, over 50 are on pre-order. So on launch-day there will be less than 30 console on sale. Across Switzerland! If you want the first shipment, forget it. And who camps in March in front of a store??
A salesperson from Media Markt told me they had for just this location 50 Wii consoles. They all sold out within a few hours and they had customers not getting one.
Seriously Sony, you must be out of your mind…
