Okay, there is actually a little joke in my title ;-).
Yes, it is true. You can install and start Quake 3 Arena on your 1GHz powered Android mobile phone. Everything is there, all the settings, all your beloved characters. You can even start a single player level (haven’t tested multiplayer yet) BUT you can not walk (or run *hint*) around in any levels. Pretty weird, because according to reports you can run around in the levels on a Nexus One.
Check out my screenshot gallery below. And check out the official resource for Kwaak 3 on Google Project Hosting.
Remember, this is less about gaming and more about showing that almost no barriers and limits exist on Android. Just hardware with very open doors and skilled people working on it!
Hey Corsin. Try the volume up button to walk forward. and volume down to jump. That is how it works on the Nexus One.
nope, not working on desire, thats the nexus way. digging deep in code right now 😉
Oh yes it does see my comments below.
Pressing the trackpad in counts as Mouse 1 – the only button that seems to be acknowledged on the Desire as far as I can see. Would like to know if you come up with a solution, though.
well, for me all the buttons work expect moving
search: opens console
trackball move: look around
trackball press: fire weapon
menu: pauses
home: home i guess 😉
i have troubles compiling so i can not really debug the code right. but i am on it 😉
You can re-assign the volume up button from within the setup menu. You can then move forward. On the HTC Desire you also need to change a number or graphics options to make it run with a good frame rate.
