I knew it! Not only because Beat Knecht, CEO of Zattoo hinted it in an email to me a couple of days ago, but also because this is natural evolution and because Zattoo viewers are required to pay for the Billag this autumn.
Zattoo is now offering high quality channels to its users. Starting now viewers in Switzerland (sorry, no other countries yet) have the possibility to pay a monthly fee of 3.75 CHF (Note: Why such a strange number?) and get 20 TV channels in higher quality. Those channels now have full TV resolution (no real HD resolution tough …).
Channels included:
ARD, Canale 5, Eurosport, France 2, France 3, M6, Pro7, Rai Uno, RTL, Sat1, SF 1, SF 2, SF info, TF1, TSI1, TSI2, TSR1, TRS2, VOX, ZDF
Please keep the following in mind:
* Try out the free HiQ channel before you purchase a subscription to make sure that these channels work on your system
* You need to have a broadband connection of at least 2 Mbps to get a good transmission quality
* Don’t despair if you haven’t received an invitation to update the player yet. If you’re on Swiss ground, you should get one within the next few days. Just hang in there …
* How to subscribe: click on a HiQ channel in your lineup. You will be redirected to the payment page.
* Swisscom VDSL subscribers get the HiQ channels for free. More information here

This page is the shopping portal. And now I know why it is CHF 3.75 a month: You can only subscribe for 3 or 12 months (12 months gives you 25% discount which equals to CHF 3.75). The normal monthly price is CHF 5, the number I heard before.
Finally, a full screenshot of the resolution and quality.
Go ahead and update your player. And if you subscribe, please leave a comment and tell us how the quality is and why you actually did it.
