What is Visit Europe?
www.VisitEurope.com is a project by the European Travel Commission (ETC). The ETC is an association of National Tourism Organisations (NTOs). It was created in 1948 to promote Europe as a destination to long-haul tourism markets outside Europe. The ETC is not part of the European Commission and is financed by annual membership contributions. Members are all the states of the European Union as well as 10 non-EU states (Croatia, Iceland, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine).
Visit Europe is a source for travelers from all over to the world that want to visit an European Country. It offers everything a traveler and visitor needs:
- Country specific details
- Currency converter
- Weather information
- Flight Search
- Climate information for major cities
- Event lists, sorted by countries, categories or dates
- A dynamic and informative “Map of Europe“
- … and much, much more.
VisitEurope.com describes the map as “Travel through Europe with the new interactive map of Europe! This robust European map is a tool and source of information for the entire continent, at a glance.”
And this is exactly what the map does. You can discover Europe from your desktop at home.
The map can be divided into the different parts of Europe like “The Alps“, “Benelux“, “European Island”, “The Mediterranean” and many others.
The map sure can need some updates. All the important information opens in a new window and not inside the map itself. I also miss some pictures or videos about the region.
How To Plan Your Trip? With The Travel Planner
Another cool feature of VisitEurope.com (if not the coolest) is the travel planner.
To bad you cannot add a “news item” to your travel plan.
You first fill in some basics like your departure, your traveling time, your preferred locations and some interests. On the next pages you will have the possibility to refine your desired regions (select countries) and your interests. After that you can build your own personal travel plan.
Once you have created your travel plan you can print it out or register for an account and store all your plans on the website. Or you can browse the website and add trips and events to your planer with one simple click.
What do you think of VisitEurope.com? Does it fit your needs and will you use it for your next trip to Europe? Is there something similar for North America? And is the Travel Planer an alternative to Offbeat Guides?
What are the results(names) of winners,re:Trip for two to Europe.
