A couple of days ago the official Webtuesday Job Board has been launched. Head over to the Webtueady wiki to take a look at open positions at some technology and Internet related companies in Zurich and Switzerland.
No matter if you are looking for a job as PHP or Ruby On Rails developer or as a system administrator in a Linux environment, chances are good some swiss startup is looking for a highly talented person.
Or if yourself are looking for talent, add your positions to the wiki and I am sure, people will contact you.
Cablecom, on of the two biggest Internet Service Providers in Switzerland just started to support their customers on Twitter. With the account @cablecomwebcare the Cablecom has launched a testphase of two months to see how well this goes for them and their customers.
The process is simple: You follow the Twitter account @cablecomwebcare and the team will follow you back. Once this has happened you can send them a direct message with your contact details and your problem and they will contact you.
I also strongly suggest they are actively tracking and searching the Twittersphere for problems. And maybe use the account for very important news or updates.
The next logical step would be to search for problems and directly contact the person. This might be a little tricky, but would for sure create some feedback and reactions among their twittering customers.
Update: It looks like the @cablecomwebcare approach is a copy of the parent company’s Twitter account @UPC_Webcare. That account is active for quiet a while and seems to have great success. At least 6 people take care of any customer problems.
The first StartupCamp in Switzerland took place in January 2009 and brought together young and future entrepreneurs in Switzerland in the process of building or planning a business in the high-tech, Web or life-science industry. Google Analytics has a nice little visualization tool. With this, you can create good looking graphs and animations for various kinds of data. I have created a small sequence to show you the change of browser types that visitors of my blog have. The data is from 2009 (January through December) and shows that my visitors love Firefox, but also that Chrome and Safari are fighting for the 3rd place. Not quiet the data big research companies have, but I am glad people use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.
I needed a quick and dirty PHP photo gallery. So what did I do? I hacked one together very quickly. That was in 2007. Today I have published that little piece of software to GitHub. You can download (ZIP or TAR) MyEasyPhotoGallery from GitHub and use it create a photo gallery in less than 3 minutes.
All you need to do is upload the script, upload your photos and click a link. The script then creates the thumbnails and you can share the link with everyone. There is no need for a database, user management or anything.
The design is very basic. So this really is just a simple plain “show” interface. You could use to quickly create a display for some logos your a creating or for your mother’s photos to France.
And there are some bugs. For example, on my server GD creates very dark thumbnails. Maybe ImageMagick could help. And there are sometimes some error messages I have not yet removed or fixed.
People asked me, how it comes that my blog feed is published as goo.gl shortened URL in Twitter. The solution is rather simple. All you need to do is have your feed being publicized by Feedburner and active the following settings:
“Publicized” -> “Socialize” and add your Twitter account. Thanks to OAuth, Google does not need to know your password.
The settings allows you to set different options. For example, you can add a hashtag for each of your posts and could easily track your hashtag among all of Twitter. But the real benefit of this is, that the post URLs have some special Google Analytics parameters added. This allows you to track clicks from your tweets inside Google Analytics. Simply browse to “Traffic Sources” -> “All Traffic Sources” and under “Source / Media” you see all “feedburner / twitter” clicks.
